The
UV Light
is
being used successfully as an disinfectant in many industries
today, But is UV effective as an Air Purifier?
The Ultraviolet air purifier or UV
air purifier for short is based distinctly upon the
disinfecting qualities of ultraviolet light.
Ultraviolet light has been used for
decades for disinfection purposes in hospitals and
operating rooms. Barbers were using UV light to sanitize
combs in the 50’s.
There are three types of UV light. 1.
The first is UV-A which is used in tanning beds and
to treat different skin disorders. This type is not
considered dangerous.
2. The second type is UV-B. This
type of UV is dangerous and prolonged exposure can
result in damage to your skin and eyes.
3. The third type of UV is UV-C.
This where we get the term germicidal UV and is the
type used in UV air purifiers. This type of short
wave UV is very effective at killing the germs that
cause allergies and trigger asthma attacks. These
germs, such as bacterium, mold spores, fungi, and
viruses are rendered sterile in the presence of germicidal
UV, leaving them incapable of reproducing. UV-C can
irritate the eyes but it not considered dangerous.
It cannot penetrate the skin.
But UV is not considered to be an effective
air purifier alone
because it will only the destroy the the contaminants
that come within inches of the bulb. For this reason
UV is usually just added to other types of filtering
air purifiers to keep bacteria from collecting and
growing in the filter.
One area UV is effective at is keeping the coils in
an HVAC unit from breeding bacteria. Ultraviolet light
bulbs are placed right above the coils to destroy
mold collecting in the drip pans. This will kill viruses
and bacteria at the source before they get into your
home or office. The down side is that it takes up
to six bulbs to cover the full area of the coil. Add
that to the fact that UV lights typically have to
be replaced once a year, it makes the cost of this
method quite substantial.
The Air Oasis UV air purifier
is a air purifier that utilizes germicidal
UV in whole new way. The technology is called AHPCO
(advanced hydrated photo catalytic oxidation). This
technology combines an ozone producing UV lamp and
a metallic catalyst in a moist atmospheric chamber.
The reaction that occurs in this chamber results in
the ozone being converted into other more effective
“super” ions. These ions travel through
out a room reacting with bacterium, viruses, and voc’s
and oxidizing them on the spot. Once they react they
upon a contaminant they then revert back to oxygen
and hydrogen. The additional use of nanotechnology
to break down ozone even further makes the Air Oasis
air purifier the most advanced and ultra-safe air
cleaner available on the market.
The Air Oasis Nano Induct air
purifier is perfect
for your Central Heat and Air Unit because instead
of using UV alone to kill bacteria on the coils, the
Air Oasis Induct will produce ions that will travel
through your duct work destroying molds and bacteria
before they enter your home. The best part is that
it only requires a single replacement bulb once every
three years. With an Air Oasis air purifier you can
put allergies and asthma at bay and keep your home
safe from indoor air pollution and make your air a
whole lot easier to breathe. More Info
